I was so honored when this client asked me to take her 1st child’s newborn pictures. Not only is mom a fellow photographer (no pressure there!), but they also drove from Palm Bay to have me photograph their daughter.
When planning my newborn sessions I always find out what the theme and colors are for the baby’s nursery and start from there. When my clients hang their baby’s newborn portraits up, I want them to look like they were designed into the decor – because they were! Baby E’s nursery is light purple and teal. Teal has been a super popular color for nurseries this year!
Mom and Dad brought along their childhood “lovies” and asked me to work them into a photograph with Baby E’s new bunny. I really hope the bunny ends up being THE stuffed animal. The one she just can’t live without, that ends up tattered and smelly from so much love, because how cool will it be for her to have this picture of her and bunny together when they were both brand new? I am such a sap, but these are seriously the kinds of thought I have that make me love my job SO much! We got the bunny picture no problem, but then Baby E woke up and I wasn’t sure I was going to get the “group” picture at the end of the session. I’m so glad we stuck it out because I love how the picture turned out and know it will be something cherished by the family.
And of course, no session at Jennifer Shaver Photography is complete without some variation of a hand shot. I normally use Dad because I like the contrast of Dad’s manly hands to the delicate baby skin, but really what I love the most about these images is capturing how tiny they started out.
